LOWER COSTS & EXPAND CHOICE

Health coverage should be affordable, accessible and give Iowans meaningful choices about their care. IAAHC supports policies that help individuals and families afford health insurance while also expanding access to providers, increasing competition and giving consumers greater control over their health care decisions.

The expiration of enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits has made coverage more expensive for millions of Americans. IAAHC supports efforts to make premium assistance more predictable and sustainable, while pursuing policies that help lower the overall cost of health care.

Iowans should also have more choices when it comes to how and where they receive care. That means supporting physician recruitment and retention, particularly in rural and underserved communities; expanding licensure compacts that allow qualified health professionals to practice across state lines; and avoiding unnecessary insurance mandates that increase premiums and limit affordable coverage options.

Consumers also need better information to make informed decisions. IAAHC supports greater health care price transparency so patients can know what they are likely to pay before receiving care and can compare options. In 2025, the Iowa Senate unanimously passed the Patient’s Right to Save Act (SF 319), which would have required providers to disclose discounted cash prices for health care services and health plans to disclose average allowed amounts for covered services. IAAHC supports continuing that effort to put consumers—not the health care system—in control of their health care decisions.

Our goal is simple: more affordable coverage, more access to care, more choices and more control for Iowa consumers.
